The historical re-enactment of one of the most important GPs in the world in the golden age of motorcycle racing. It was here that Jarno Saarinen's talent revealed itself
The re-enactment of the "GP Pesaro Mobili" to be held on Sunday 5 June at the industrial area of Chiusa di Ginestreto is well represented by the splendid official poster, synthesis not only of that race-show that has gone down in history but more generally the emblem of that motorcycling of "Days of Courage" starring three of the greatest and most beloved champions of all time: Giacomo Agostini, Jarno Saarinen, Renzo Pasolini. Among the events that recall the races of the past resumed everywhere – however, not all "quality" events – after the two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, a special place deserves this 7° revival of the "Gran Premio Pesaro Mobili" which takes you back to the race held 50 years ago the 20 August 1972 and which has rightfully earned a place in the history of motorcycling.
Among the seven "ems" that have always characterized Pesaro (“m” come mare, monti, musica, majolica, furniture, moto, mechanics) that relating to motorcycles and motorcycling has always taken on a particular value. The city of Gioachino Rossini is the city of Benelli founded in 1911, the second oldest Italian motorcycle company still in business, followed by other major brands, by dozens of specialized workshops, land forge of mechanics and technicians, of riders and great champions, from Tonino Benelli to Valentino Rossi, with a motorcycle club (the "Tonino Benelli") active since 1932, 4° affiliated in chronological order to the Italian Motorcycle Federation), for decades organizer of major national and international races, then active in the field of historical quality events as well as on that of motorcycle tourism as well as promoter and manager (with the collaboration of the Municipality of Pesaro and the Benelli Historical Register to which the partnership with the Terra di Piloti e Motori Association has been added) of the splendid “Museo Officine Benelli” located in a part of the old factory in Via Mameli. Museum that is a truly unique "pearl", with inside beyond 200 motorcycles Benelli and MotoBi and from May 2021, temporarily, with the Morbidelli Collection composed of 71 historic motorcycles, mostly racing, of inestimable value, purchased from ASI.
This seventh edition of the re-enactment of the “Gran Premio Pesaro Mobili” will take place, on a path created outside the city at the Berloni industrial area of Chiusa di Ginestreto which was once a theater, Inter alia, of the last edition of the great race in 1978. The event bears the signature of Romano Romani, passionate militant and tireless organizer, with the association "Moto e Miti anni '70s" and the support of the "Land of pilots and engines ". On this occasion, that edition of the 1972 (the previous edition of 1971 went down in history for the last duel between Agostini-MV and Hailwood-Benelli) with the triumphal exploit of Jarno Saarinen making his debut with the new Benellis 4 cylinders 350 e 500 (Saarinen made the tic-tac-toe, also winning the 250 su Yamaha) beating Giacomo Agostini on the MV Agusta and will celebrate the entrepreneur and designer from Pesaro "genius of engines" Giancarlo Morbidelli who died on 10 February 2020.
