Diego di Fabio's Honda NSX GT3 Evo in the wind tunnel
Diego Di Fabio, the nineteen year old pilot from Pesaro, This year he is the protagonist in the Italian Gran Turismo “Endurance” Championship.
After the title won last year, at the debut in the demanding championship, paired with Luca Magnoni. in the “GT4 AM” Category at the wheel of the Mercedes AMG GT4 of Team Nova Race, for the 2022 the Scuderia from Varese “rewarded” him with the change of category, the “GT3” the maximum expression of racing reserved for Gran Turismos. Diego was entrusted with one of the three Honda "NSX GT3", which Nova Race officially manages on behalf of Honda HRC. The Japanese coupe with his 3.500 cc, bitter, in GT3 version it develops over 600hp, with seven-speed sequential gearbox. Another important milestone, a new challenge for Di Fabio who is in his fourth year of racing, it already has two Italian titles: the one in the “Lite” Class of the Mini Challenge, won his absolute debut at sixteen, and precisely the one already reported above, in 2021 in the "GT4AM" Class Gran Turismo.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP- Articulated as the "Sprint", on four appointments , Endurance differs for two-hour races, and the possibility of three pilots per crew. The start last 15 May in Pergusa, the Sicilian circuit returned in recent years in the lap that counts. Di Fabio immediately repaid the confidence of the Nova Race, always winning paired with Luca Magnoni, the “GT3 AM” Class, also obtaining a flattering 10th place overall. The driver of "Terra di Piloti e Motori" in his driving stints also impressed commentators and insiders for speed on a track never seen before with a car "taken in hand" in just two winter tests, climbing up to the top five, position then lost due to a technical problem in the pits during the pit stop, cost more than a minute compared to the time required for the driver change. Diego also set one of the best laps ever, driving decided, on a track as well as unknown, very demanding where it is easy to make mistakes, as demonstrated by the numerous releases or "touches". The second appointment was staged at Mugello on 17 July. On the Honda NSX by Nova Race, to the Di Fabio-Magnoni couple ,the expert Alberto Lippi added. Diego, fresh from Diploma at the Art School "Mengaroni", with a great personal performance on a path he prefers, supported by a perfect Honda, he granted an encore with his companions, or the victory in "GT3AM", with a flattering eighth place overall. Worth highlighting is the performance of the Pesaro native in Saturday's qualifying, when in his turn, with a sequence of “monstre” laps he obtained the third absolute time, with the “Pole Position”, vanished due to the obstacle of a slower competitor. In such a concentrated championship, the important thing is to get the most out of each race, goal achieved so far by Diego and his teammates Now after the summer break we are back on track in Vallelunga, the 18 September, supported by a machine that in the meantime the Nova Race has also developed in the Pininfarina Wind Tunnel, the Di Fabio crew- Magnoni-Lippi, can aim high with the possibility of a "match ball", already on the Roman circuit and maybe get to Monza on 9 October in the last appointment of 2022, with the tricolor shield sewn on the suits.
MISANO– The respect for the young Diego within Team Nova Race, obtained to the sound of results, we had it last 5 June, when on the occasion of the “Sprint” test of the Italian Championship at the “Marco Simoncelli” in Misano, the man from Pesaro was "rewarded" with a one-off participation in the race on the "home" circuit. Presence desired as well as by Luca Magnoni, also by the Sports Director Christian Pescatori. The former Audi driver, with two podiums at the 24 Le Mans hours, which also boasts a victory in the 12 Sebring hours, and a World Title in FIA GT, always coach and mentor of Diego. “Prize” paid off with a second place in the race 1 of Saturday and the victory in the Race 2 Sunday. With these results, the rider from Pesaro has now conquered a place on the national scene and not only in the Gran Turismo sector. Diego is also respected for his technical preparation, important above all in a young person, to “transmit” information to the Team to improve the performance of the car. Results made possible also thanks to the support of the companies that support it : Mak Wheels, Plant Center, Marchigiana Rottami, Conti Corrado Compressori, Pronto Green, Tekno Impianti Pesaro, Drive Eat Group catering Valentini Group Paper and Sport & Safe Driving School, and why not with the "moral" support of Land of Pilots and Motors.
